March 23 – a special day…

It is my dad’s birthday! As a family we are not big on celebrations, however we do take the time to acknowledge and share our love and care for each other.

This year is even more special that last year, when we were all together as a family to celebrate my dad’s 80th birthday in Ecuador. My brother planned this fantastic trip to visit all the places that my dad reminisces with us throughout our childhood. It was a special time to be all together and hear the stories one more time, while experiencing the places that helped shape who may dad is today.

You may be thinking, what can top that… one simple thing… Seeing him smile and enjoy his day, even when we are not all together again. It gives me so much joy and happiness to see him happy and with such a big smile.

My dad is an extraordinary human being. He is a leader and a scientist by heart that has devoted his life to help people as physician. I have seen him fearlessly research and find ways to help his patients heal. He has supported other physicians grow with his mentoring/ coaching and by connecting them with institutions and contacts that can help them increase their skill and specialization on their area of expertise.

I love to hear the gratitude and kind words from his colleagues and patients for the efforts and support he provided to them. A pioneer in Nephrology and General Medicine in Brazil and Ecuador.

I learned from him to be resourceful and to find solutions. Become the best of the best to serve and care with discipline, hard work, independence, making things happen, helping others along the way and many more…

He has been very critical and demanding of himself at a cost of not been able to fully accept recognition for his efforts. We have had many discussions on this… and now I can understand more as I am very similar to my dad. In many ways we are mirror of each other. I have realized that when I have a reaction and I may not agree with him… often is that exact thing I need to learn for myself…

As him, I am on a journey of self-appreciation and enjoying what I have created around me. Exerting self-love and knowing that we can celebrate where we are, even though we may not have reached yet the vision that we may have for ourselves. A path of kindness, appreciation, self-love, and deeper connections…

So blessed to have him as my dad!! The best role model and supporter in my life
