Someone Else’s Shoes

#OwnYourFuture #mumpreneursleepout

It is not until we get to experience something that we get to understand…

This weekend I joined the Mumpreneurs Sleepout sponsored by Renu Tondak. I got a glimpse of what a homeless person goes through by not having a place to spend the night. Very often I hear to walk on the other person’s shoes to better understand their situation…. And I can say that taking my pillow and blanket into my car and thinking that this is where I am spending the night changed my perspective…

I have become more grateful for having a home and a bed where I can rest everyday safely and comfortably. Now, the next time I see a person on the street with a sign “Homeless – Need Help” my perception and action will be of solidarity and support. This humbling experience has given me a deeper appreciation for those that are facing difficult times by being homeless. Certainly in most cases not a choice, but a life circumstance.

Thank you Renu for this great initiative! Now I invite you to try it… Bring your pillow and blanket to your car (or somewhere outside of your normal comfort) and spend the night there. Give yourself the gift to reflect, understand and become more grateful for all that you already have in life.
