Work/career an outlet for your greatness?
Did you know that work/career is an outlet for your greatness?
For many years I let work drive my life and did not establish limits of time or efforts. I had it backwards, meaning I did not see it as an outlet but an input to my life. The difference of this focus is critical. When work is an input, I shaped myself to fit work. On the other hand, if work is an output, it required me to first define who I want to become (personally & professionally) to then look for ways in which work will support that. Do you see the difference?
It was not until I took time to 1) clarify and articulate my Why (motivation / purpose) and 2) define the experiences and the growth I want to have in my life, that I was able to see work as an outlet. I understood that work is a chosen playground to support our personal and professional development. It is where we spend extensive time. Then making it a priority to ensure our personal and the company/business objectives and values are aligned.
We become the environment and the people that surround us. Then, personal and business/company’s objectives and values alignment or not can become our propeller or drag.
Choose wisely your playground and understand your drivers so work becomes an outlet for your greatness.
