Celebrating a new decade
Birthdays are a great opportunity to celebrate life. My sister-in-law Fabiola celebrated her 50th birthday in Brazil this week. Her birthday wish, of having her closest friends and family celebrate with her in her native country came true. A group of 12 joined her, 10 of us from the U.S. She has this ability to create wonderful experiences for herself and those around her. This time was no different.
This comes as no surprise. After all, Fab is special. Since our university days, when we met, she always exhibited leadership and a drive to make things happen. As the president of the international student council, we witnessed Fab manage a good balance between work, family, friendships and enjoying life. I know Fab well, yet it has been great to spend time with her family and her Brazilian friends – to learn more about her and where she comes from. Most in the group and in her family, come from a background of working in the corporate world. Over the past week, I have enjoyed hearing the stories of their success and for some, their evolution after retirement. There was one theme among all – enjoy life and do what you love. It really doesn’t matter what it is. The point is being true to oneself and taking the steps to make it a reality, while embracing change.
We are a diverse group of different backgrounds, countries of origin, cultures, and preferences that have found a way to connect and grow our friendship. Traveling together has been easy and enjoyable. Together we celebrated and made Fab’s birthday wish come true.
What if we all exerted our dive to create wonderful experiences for ourselves and those around us at work and personally? What would our world look and feel?
