Giving a way of living

Community impact as a personal value

For the past 13 years my Brazilian family has been supporting less advantaged families by providing them with food, a space for reflection and hope. My uncle and aunt started back then the “Sementinha program” and the construction of the building where this all occurs. Various family members have taken the leadership throughout the years to continue with this service for the community. It is with great admiration and humbleness that I attend this volunteer activity, when I come to visit them.

Time, resources, infrastructure, and their conviction has maintained this great tradition that not only helps others but brings the family together and grounds each of us individually.

This happens every Thursday afternoon. It starts early in the morning with getting the groceries. At 1:30 pm begins the preparation to cook 320 litters of “the soup” to be given with milk and bread by 4:00 pm for ~80 families (~250 people). “The soup” is not a simple soup… it is made with carefully selected vegetables, meat and noodles. A nourishing meal made by a team on an efficient assembly line. This is the moment away from the regular routine and professional activities to connect and support less advantaged families.

Throughout the years, I have seen my uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family, and friends, relentlessly keep this help to the community. It is a time to come together for a cause that goes beyond ourselves.

I am blessed to have this great example to tangibly be grateful with life by sharing with the community. A visible way to demonstrate this deep personal and family value.
