People are more than one thing….

One’s identity tends to be shaped by the roles that we play. Frequently it is driven by the work we do, the schools we attend, the hobbies we engage, the family and/or organizations we belong to, etc.

Which one shapes yours?

I have discovered that when we awaken to our purpose, the roles and activities we engage have a better chance to support us in advancing our life mission. Purpose acts as the overall theme and compass of decision and choice that builds and magnifies the impact of our actions. Life becomes these puzzle pieces that come together to create and build that better version of ourselves.

My puzzle pieces are composed of experiences that cause human acceleration for myself and others around me personally and professionally. The friends, hobbies, environments and organizations I engage in help me nourish my explorer-adventurous heart by challenging and exposing me to new ways of thinking that stretches me to grow. Some examples:

· My trips for example usually combine learning and experiences that broaden my perspective and support me on my journey to enjoy life fully.

· My hobbies as a ballroom dancer, a diver, a skydiver, and many others expose me to different sides of me to master my fears to the unknown.

· My work as HR expert and coach to help leaders awaken to purpose combine the technical and human psychology in the business world.

· My family and friends enable me to connect and love. I learn to model those who already are getting the results that I would like to see in my life.

Recently I was asked, what would happen if I focus on one thing only…and with certainty I can say the Maritza you know, will not be as strong, centered, focused and committed. At different times during my career, when I only focused at work (one thing), I became suboptimal. I am one that needs to constantly grow and foster love and connection with intention in various areas. Many say I am too deep… well probably so… Then engaging in different activities, for me, is key to continue shaping the best version of myself.

Knowing this has provided me with a deep sense of assurance, empowerment and drive to build a fulfilled life.

What is that underlying theme in your life? What is your purpose driving you to choose and decide?
