Seen, Heard and Understood

Stop for a minute and think if in the interactions with others you make them feel seen, heard and understood… Did you know that is one of the biggest human needs?

This can be applied in every area of our life. Today I would like to share how I experienced it at the Tony Robbins Virtual Business Mastery team project last week. The “Lucky Gorillas” started with 4 members and grew to be 222 members, over delivering (US$427K total result) on the original fundraising goal (US$300K) for the American Foundation for the Blind (AFA).

There were many keys to this success: quickly building an image, communicating a compelling - clear vision and mission, a strong empowered team to build what was needed to onboard the new members, provided clarity and quickly resolved issues as we only had 2.5 days to raise the funds for the AFA.

Success leaves clues and at the last team meeting one of the biggest enablers was revealed. As you may expect during a team that is quickly growing, conflict arises, people have concerns and the fear of donating money, complying with the rules and being in a new environment brings. After complimenting Peter Swain, our leader, on his patience and dedication to the team members, he explained the reasoning for him taking these actions:

When people complain, act aggressively, are doubtful, and show other behaviors that may not be perceived as positive, it is a cry for help. If we enter the game of business and life with that mindset and seek to connect with people to let them be seen, heard and understood; magic happens, resulting in incredible creations where people are willing to go above and beyond to contribute and belong.

The Lucky Gorillas has been a great experience. I now choose to see, listen and understand the people which I would like to inspire to action and build meaningful connections.

Imagine what could happen if we all focused on these three actions every day... how will the quality of our life and our relationships can be transformed.

I challenge you today to test intentionally seeing, listening and understanding the people you interact with. Share your finding in the comments below 😊
