Siena and Bologna
(Aug 30)
Our background and experiences are filters that help us take in and navigate different cultures. We are interpreting through our lenses that do not necessarily reflect the context and reality of the places we are visiting. From things and situations that may seem familiar and others not so much.
I enjoyed riding the train from Firenze (Florence) to Siena and Bologna. In Latin America that is not as common as in Europe. Loved watching the scenery and chatting with friends.
From medieval architecture and history to the famous mortadella and cheeses. Being on this side of the world is different and familiar at the same time. There are a lot of similar scenes found throughout Latin America. We are united by the type of construction, customs and food. The flavors are different, however, the ingredients are familiar.
Magnificent buildings and history all around…. Found guys getting ready for the flag festival. Scene shown in the movie Under the Tuscan Sun… it is great to recognize traditions and what was beautiful to watch in a movie is today a reality happening in front of my eyes.
I love to discover new ways of living and experiencing life. Noticing the differences in the little and big things and being challenged by the lack of proficiency in Italian… at the end… It is about taking the time to observe, hear and understand… to connect and communicate.
Wonderful experiences overall that makes me appreciate differences and to remember to be compassionate and patient with myself and other people of different ages, backgrounds, levels of experiences, etc. It is humbling and exciting at the same time…
How do you go about facing new situations, people and experiences? Are you open to the new ways or are you constantly comparing and wanting to bring it to your familiar ways?
